Although I have collected information on McDonald and Gillam descendants to the present day, and continue to do so, I have chosen to include only the children and grandchildren in this story of my convict ancestor, and so the majority of the people in this “book” are now deceased. However, the names of great-grandchildren are included in the tables and some of these people, especially those descended from the youngest of the McDonald children may still be living.

A table is included for every child and grandchild of George and Delia McDonald and for the descendants of Frances Furner. These tables contain, in many cases, snippets of information that have not been used in the main body of the story. The tables also include the reference numbers from the records of the Registrar-General used in the Tasmanian Pioneers Index 1803-1899 and those of mainland-Australia registers. This not only gives the reader the source of the information but lessens considerably the number of footnotes required.
In many instances it has not been possible to find stories about some of the people who make up the family of George and Delia and the tables have been included to make up for this deficiency. Newspapers, more often than not, print stories that portray people in their hour of despair or degradation. These stories have been noted, but it should be remembered that it is human nature to remember the one wrong thing a person may have done rather than the many good (unrecorded) things that they achieved in their lives.
